The agenda of the world community for the last three months of the year was formed against the background of announcements about the spread of the Omicron coronavirus strain. Another military coup in Sudan, the end of the 16-year rule of Angela Merkel in Germany, the migration crisis on the border of Belarus and Poland, tensions between Great Britain and France.

COVID-19

Efforts to vaccinate against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have continued around the world, with new strains of COVID-19 discovered in many countries. The bans imposed as part of the fight against coronavirus have sparked protests in several countries.

Migration crisis

A migration crisis broke out on the border between Belarus and Poland on November 8. Thousands of migrants have accumulated at the Bruzgi checkpoint in the Belarusian city of Grodno, striving to get to Europe through the territory of Poland.

A rubber boat carrying migrants bound for the UK sank in the English Channel on 24 November. The incident killed 27 people, including children and a pregnant woman. This tragedy triggered a migration crisis between the UK and France.

The 16-year reign of Chancellor Angela Merkel in Germany has ended. Olaf Scholz, leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), becomes the new Federal Chancellor of Germany
